Transport ops

How to digitise school transport without overwhelming your team

Many schools want digital tools but fear disruption. Transport is the perfect starting point because the pain is daily, measurable, and felt by parents immediately.

Start with one pilot route

Pick your busiest morning route. Set up one bus, one driver, and the students on that trip. Run paper and digital in parallel for three days if your team needs reassurance.

Train drivers in 15 minutes

Drivers need only three actions: start trip, mark attendance, end trip. GPS runs in the background. Avoid feature overload on day one — mastery builds confidence.

Import student data once

Use your existing register or spreadsheet. Parent phone numbers are the critical field — they power SMS alerts from the first real trip.

Communicate with parents early

Send a one-page notice explaining that the school is launching bus alerts. Parents who understand the system become advocates instead of skeptics.

Review weekly, expand monthly

After two weeks on one route, add the evening route. After a month, roll out to the full fleet. SmartBus onboarding follows this phased model by design.

We’ll guide your rollout

Onboarding support is part of every school agreement — pricing discussed individually with your team.
